Detailed plan

Day 1 - Arrival in Bari

Arrival in Bari, overnight stay in B&B in a structure close to the station

Day 2 - Day in Bari

Breakfast and Street food of Bari Vecchia. Meeting with the local guide at 10.30 am in Piazza Federico II di Svevia, in front of the Swabian Castle.

Our tour will start from here with an external overview of the great Norman-Swabian castle from the XII century. We will continue entering the maze of dirt roads to meet the famous ladies of old Bari, at work with orecchiette pasta under the eyes of tourists. Afterwards, we will visit the Cathedral of San Sabino, which was built between the XI and XII centuries and immediately after the Basilica of San Nicola, a splendid example of Apulian Romanesque architecture, where Catholic worship meets Orthodox traditions.During the tour, you will stop at regular intervals to taste some of the city's famous street food specialities, from panzerotto to focaccia to sgagliozze.

Free afternoon or, if you wish, you can add a half-day excursion to Matera with a supplement.

Day 3 - Trani

Breakfast and transfer with the regional train to Trani (duration 40 min).

Departure for the guided tour of the city, shared with a small group. Meeting with the guide in Piazza Manfredi at 10.30 and visit of the Swabian Castle (exterior), Romanesque Cathedral inside and outside to continue towards the medieval Jewish quarter, the Giudecca, where there are still 2 synagogues.

We will end the visit in the picturesque tourist port.

Return by train to Bari.

Day 4 - Polignano a Mare in Tuk tuk & Monopoli

ATTENTION: We recommend that you bring a beach towel and a swimsuit with you.

Breakfast and train ride to Polignano a mare, city of Domenico Modugno, Mr Volare.

Tuk tuk tour to discover the old city.You will admire the Roman and Renaissance traces of the city with the Roman bridge in Lama Monachile and the Marchesale Arch that will allow us to enter the old city. Church of Purgatory (exterior) and first terrace on the sea, followed by the Mother Church of Santa Maria Assunta (exterior) and Chapel of Santo Stefano.In the afternoon, transfer by train to Monopoli for an independent walk (without a guide) to discover a historic center full of beauties of the small seaside town: baroque churches such as the Cathedral of Santa Maria della Madia and the church of Santa Maria del Suffragio (called Purgatory) crossing the alleys of the historic center.

At a certain point you will find yourself on the seafront of Monopoli and its sixteenth-century Castle of Charles V. If the weather permits, I recommend a dip in one of the coves a few steps from the historic center, immersing yourself in the clean blue waters of this splendid town.

Return by train to Bari

Day 5 - Ostuni Alberobello Itria Valley by Ape car

Breakfast, check out and transfer by train Ostuni.

Arrived at the station an Apecar will be waiting for you to reach the ancient village. Guided tour of the medieval village, with stops and explanations of the various monuments, panoramic terraces, photo stops... and we will continue to Cisternino, Locorotondo and Alberobello, in the so-called Valle D'itria, admiring the dry stone walls, the trulli and the ancient villages. The Ape Calessino, thanks to its small size, can access every corner of the historic center. At the end of the day I arrive at Ostuni station to reach Lecce.

Day 6 - Lecce

Breakfast and walking tour Lecce in sharing.

Meeting in Piazza Sant'Oronzo where our journey through the beauties of Lecce's Baroque and the testimonies of the Roman era will begin, admiring the Cathedral, the Basilica of Santa Croce, the amphitheater and the Roman Theater, the exterior of the Castle of Charles V and numerous facades of ancient buildings. A day with a driver in a 9-seater van, where you can share a trip along the Salento coast with other travellers with free stops a Otranto, Castro, Leuca and Gallipoli, returning to Lecce. There will be plenty of time to admire the historic centers, coastal towers, lighthouses and breathtaking views.

Return to Lecce and overnight stay
